Some recent studies related to the inhaled corticosteroid budesonide have given to our society certain hope. This drug has been applied many times to cure kids who suffer from asthma. It has been stated that this medication led to cataract in children that took it. But the recent studies have demonstrated that the possibility linked with this unwanted effect is quite reduced.
Several experts at the University of Southern Denmark in Holding have led a study to determine reality of occurring cataract in the children that were treated with the steroid budesonide. There was no any cataract in 148 persons that were using this inhaled steroid. Among those who didn’t experience asthma and were not treated with budesonide 2 individuals had cataract. It was reported by the pediatric professor Soren Pedersen from the University of the Southern Denmark in Kolding. Soren Pedersen noticed that when it came to cataract, there was no any difference between those that used budesonide and those who didn’t use it.
The doctor Soren Pederson and his colleagues have treated many patients that experienced asthma with budesonide during over 2 decades. There was no any indication that this corticosteroid could lead to any serious undesirable result. Children that were given budesonide didn’t have any growth problems.
In the latest research 270 kids with asthma were given budesonide; 62 children didn’t apply budesonide because their parents feared of the results. Parents of those to whom budesonide was given said that no any dangerous adverse result was observed in their children. 30 of those 62 children that applied the steroid budesonide felt positive effects in the treatment of asthma.
The professors have defined that the risk of cataract for those that treat asthma with budesonide was 5 %.
Soren Pedersen confirmed that there was no any cataract or another side response related to vision during over 15 years of his practice of treating children with the inhaled steroid budesonide.
Hyun Don Yun, MD, a resident in allergy and immunology at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, has stated that these aspects have shown that even long-time therapy with the steroid budesonide doesn’t cause any unwanted reaction linked with vision system.
According to certain other studies, inhaled steroids have other influence on our systems in comparison with effects of other steroids.

According to Sonksen, employees of the WADA are not specialists in this area. That’s why they don’t see the priority of one method over the other. But as it was proved by scientists, the HGH biomarker test is better than HGH isoform test.
Although scientists claim about difference between these two tests, the WADA doesn’t desire to to use the other method.

Scientists try to elaborate alternative medications to anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. They confirm that athletes may soon have another way to bulk up. The Salk Institute has claimed that the efforts of the scientists have success. Recent studies have shown that blocking of a genome regulator which is known as “NCoR1” causes increase of muscle size, energy and endurance. The leader of the researches conducted in the Salk Institute, Ronald Evans, confirms that this knowledge can contribute in introduction of certain new products which will benefit not only for sportsmen and bodybuilders that train but also for people who have sedentary lifestyle.
The scientists of the Salk Institute notice about people that can’t do physical exercises because they have different health troubles, such as diabetes, frailty, immobility and other physical or psychological aspects that cause sedentary lifestyle. The specialists intend to elaborate certain specific preparations that could benefit for sedentary persons so, as exercises benefit for healthy people. Now they make experiments with sedentary mice.
As for anabolic steroids, they can lead to enhancement of muscle size in sedentary individuals. But persons that use anabolic steroids should train and alter their diets to achieve better effects.
If new preparations which suppress NCoR1 are developed by scientists successfully, they will make essential changes in sedentary people. But could you imagine which benefits will be caused in sportspersons?
But there is also an essential difference between anabolic steroids and NCoR1 suppression. It is known that anabolic steroids lead to undesirable symptoms; some of them can be quite dangerous for health and even for life. Moreover, anabolic steroids may cause serious unexpected symptoms especially in females. But as for NCoR1 suppression, specialists are sure that drugs that will block this genome regulator will not cause adverse reactions.
There is an article about NCoR1 suppression that has got the following title: “NCoR1 Is a Conserved Physiological Modulator of Muscle Mass and Oxidative Function”. It represents results of various experiments that involved mice and nematodes. The experiments have shown that NCoR1 suppression benefits for muscle mass very much. The mice with suppression of this genome regulator had more enhanced muscles and ran faster than others.
Unfortunately, the mice with NCoR1 suppression were not compared with the mice which were given anabolic steroids. If these two types of mice were compared, the results of the experiments would be very precious for further studies and conclusions.
It is possible to note that elder persons and persons that have got muscle dystrophy will be soon involved in studies to find out positive effects of new potential medicines.

Role of law enforcement agencies in catching of athletes that take steroids

Carl Fletcher, a shot-putter from Britain, can’t participate in competitions 4 years. The suspension was claimed by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) because he was accused in trafficking anabolic steroids. Carl Fletcher sold more than 15 types of steroids. It was found out that HGH, testosterone and Trenbolone belonged to the products which had been distributed by this sportsperson. The Liverpool Crown Court sentenced this sportsman to 9 month imprisonment.
It is interesting to mention that the shot-putter from Britain never tested positive for any steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs by the WADA. Don’t you think that it is strange? What could it mean? One may suppose that methods applied by anti-doping agencies are not good enough to catch consumers of steroids who participate in international sport competitions.
The WADA and the UKAD put significant efforts to release sports from cheating and intake of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. These agencies also collaborate with law enforcement organizations in order to reach the necessary results.
The UKAD pointed out that anti-doping officials would be allowed to supply information about names of athletes that administrated anabolic steroids.
This case displayed that the collaboration between the UKAD and law enforcement is very effective. It proved that law enforcement agencies may help greatly to detect the sportspersons that apply anabolic steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. It is not possible to overvalue the role of these agencies in catching of steroid users in sports. Andy Parkinson, the CEO of the UKAD, assures that if law enforcement organizations work together with the UKAD, they will have success.
The Merseyside Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) investigated a certain situation linked with intake of steroids by officers at the St. Helens Basic Command Unit. It was found out that Fletcher had taken part in the illegal activity conducted by some of his relatives. This resulted in Fletcher’s suspension from competitions till November 8, 2015.

Ruben Jaramillo, a person in New Mexico, is accused in child abuse. Police raided his house and discovered that his house was an underground lab which had manufactured anabolic steroids. Certain vials were labeled “Testosterone Cypionate”. Moreover, police officers told that information linked with prices, quantities and types of steroids had been recovered too. Chemical substances were in different rooms around the house, including the bedroom and the kitchen.

As it is known, New Mexico is not the only state where the production of anabolic steroids can be treated as child abuse. At least 10 other states have got the same laws. Such laws have certain basis.
Chemical ingredients may be toxic. They may destroy children’s health. It is important also to keep in mind that there is a risk of fires and explosions of several chemical substances. Parents who manufacture anabolic steroids at home neglect their children’s health. The children face great dangers in such situations. This is the first case in Albuquerque, when production of anabolic steroids is treated as child abuse by prosecutors.
