Scientists try to elaborate alternative medications to anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. They confirm that athletes may soon have another way to bulk up. The Salk Institute has claimed that the efforts of the scientists have success. Recent studies have shown that blocking of a genome regulator which is known as “NCoR1” causes increase of muscle size, energy and endurance. The leader of the researches conducted in the Salk Institute, Ronald Evans, confirms that this knowledge can contribute in introduction of certain new products which will benefit not only for sportsmen and bodybuilders that train but also for people who have sedentary lifestyle.
The scientists of the Salk Institute notice about people that can’t do physical exercises because they have different health troubles, such as diabetes, frailty, immobility and other physical or psychological aspects that cause sedentary lifestyle. The specialists intend to elaborate certain specific preparations that could benefit for sedentary persons so, as exercises benefit for healthy people. Now they make experiments with sedentary mice.
As for anabolic steroids, they can lead to enhancement of muscle size in sedentary individuals. But persons that use anabolic steroids should train and alter their diets to achieve better effects.
If new preparations which suppress NCoR1 are developed by scientists successfully, they will make essential changes in sedentary people. But could you imagine which benefits will be caused in sportspersons?
But there is also an essential difference between anabolic steroids and NCoR1 suppression. It is known that anabolic steroids lead to undesirable symptoms; some of them can be quite dangerous for health and even for life. Moreover, anabolic steroids may cause serious unexpected symptoms especially in females. But as for NCoR1 suppression, specialists are sure that drugs that will block this genome regulator will not cause adverse reactions.

It represents results of various experiments that involved mice and nematodes. The experiments have shown that NCoR1 suppression benefits for muscle mass very much. The mice with suppression of this genome regulator had more enhanced muscles and ran faster than others.
Unfortunately, the mice with NCoR1 suppression were not compared with the mice which were given anabolic steroids. If these two types of mice were compared, the results of the experiments would be very precious for further studies and conclusions.
It is possible to note that elder persons and persons that have got muscle dystrophy will be soon involved in studies to find out positive effects of new potential medicines.
