Any sportsperson that comes to London for the Olympics may have steroids for self-administration under laws of the UK

Officers of the UK will be not able to stop sportspersons importing steroids to the UK, when they come to participate in the 2012 London Olympics. However administration of steroids is banned in sports, personal usage of these medicines is not criminal in the UK. Just sale of steroids is claimed to be illicit in this country. So, if a person wants to import amount of anabolic steroids which is evidentially large, he/she will not be permitted to do it.
Before Olympics took place in Australia, Canada and China, governments of these countries modified laws related to import and intake of steroids at least temporally. But the British government doesn’t want to alter steroid laws for the 2012 Olympics.
Ironically, however the government of the UK refuses to make personal administration of steroids criminal, Britain sportspeople are banned for lifetime, if they use anabolic steroids. As for the WADA Code, sportspersons who administer banned preparations are banned for 2 years.
The Olympic minister Hugh Robertson notes that it is important to have a universal law related to sentencing. This minister insists on at least four years or even longer.  While he is supported by the British Olympic Association, the UK Anti-Doping Agency doesn’t support such harsh punishment. Andy Parkinson, the CEO of the UK Anti-Doping Agency, thinks that certain sanctions should be softened.
Hugh Robertson acknowledges that there are different points of view in sports and it’s not well but he doesn’t ask Andy Parkinson to resign.
The spokesman for the minister has noticed that any sportsperson can have steroids in his/her luggage, when he/she comes to London. But the quantity of steroids should demonstrate that he/she has them only for personal administration. The spokesman has noted that it is not criminal for an athlete to use steroids under laws of the UK but if any athlete is caught administering banned products, he/she will be punished under anti-doping laws.
The UKAD noticed that they would cooperate with border control officials. Information about sportspersons will be utilized by anti-doping officials.
5, 000 drug tests will be conducted by the International Olympic Committee. 1, 000 of these tests will be blood tests.
