The amateur rider and journalist Andrew Tilin received a 2-year ban. United States Anti-Doping Agency banned this person after he had admitted taking steroids for legal hormone replacement therapy. The admitting was made by the rider in own book that will be soon probably released. The book is entitled following: “The Doper Next Door: My Strange and Scandalous Year on Performance-Enhancing Drugs” .
this book presents personal experiences of some individuals that applied drugs that have performance-enhancing effects.
So, Andrew Tilin used the steroid testosterone for hormone replacement therapy. It is quite clear. In fact, it is not yet clear whether this cyclist has mentioned about personal experience related also to other products which enhance performance.
Andrew Tilin tries to understand and describe in his book why people dope. He notices the motivations of different persons. Do these medications help really? These preparations are quite controversial; the explanations related to these preparations are also controversial. Since many users do not like saying about their usage, certain answers on questions about doping remain unopened.
Tilin has been significantly changed due to usage of the steroid testosterone. He has become much stronger but more aggressive. This person had to worry about his health and about the methods to cheat, being an amateur cyclist. So, Tilin became to be involved in the doping subculture.
Writing his book, Andrew Tilin desired to explain that steroids are unsafe and lead to many unwanted symptoms. A lot of sportspersons who have administrated forbidden substances criticize Andrew Tilin. One of critics is Joe Papp, a former American cyclist. This person was caught selling and administrating some performance-enhancing drugs. He didn’t admit applying forbidden products willingly; he was caught due to an investigation. His professional and personal life was destroyed because of these forbidden drugs. Joe Papp wrote about Tilin that he had been doped for a year intentionally. Papp noticed that Andrew Tilin had known that the steroid testosterone was banned but he had taken it. Then he wrote that these drugs caused undesirable effects in consumers. According to Joe Papp, Andrew Tilin had to receive a ban for 4 years.
Andrew Tilin’s ban started in March 2011.
